FAQs

Q: What does "Alternative" mean?
A: Any artist that doesn't feel comfortable with or accepted by the mainstream art world (galleries, shows, exhibits) in their area or field.

Q: Is this group only for alternative artists?
A: No.

Q: Can any kind of artist join? Musician? Painter? Dancer? Etc.?
A: We have sculptors, dancers, painters, models, hoopers, poi, and just about anything else you can think of or want to do. We love new, interesting, and unusual stuff. We love seeing your cool work. We love hanging out. And we really love to see the unusual and varied talents that exist in the Triangle.
*** However, this does NOT mean your band. Bands/Music without more exotic things going on in addition are best handled by NC Local Music or any of the 10,000 other music groups.

Q: Is there a membership fee?
A: Currently there is no fee for joining or participating in AAC events. However, starting April 1, 2013 we will be introducing membership fees. Those fees are already listed on the Membership page here on this site.

Q: What do I get for that fee?
A: Representation as part of a larger arts based group. Access to training materials and information that AAC has assembled. Participation in Members Only classes and discounts on any of the open training classes we will be offering.

Q: I heard there will be classes? What kind of classes? How often will they be available? Where will they be held?
A: This is a growing area for this Chapter. We are still doing a needs assessment and working with several other arts organizations to provide information our members find useful while not duplicating information that is available through groups like VAE.

Q: Is there a way to promote events?
A: We have a newsletter. We have a Facebook group. We have an Events Calendar. We provide information about our members shows to many other arts groups in the area to put in their newsletters and share with their members.

Q: Are there plans to acquire a venue?
A: This has already been discussed but there are no current plans for an AAC venue at this point in time. Garner already has an arts center that can be used for shows, events, etc. Fuquay-Varina is also in the early stages of working to wards an arts/community center with meeting and class rooms, a theatre and much more. We are working with these groups and are open to working with any others. Members of this Chapter are encouraged to get involved and help us forge the plans for this.
